McGuireWoods Recognized by Working Mother as a "Best Law Firm for Women"

August 11, 2009

One of only 50 Law Firms in the United States to be Selected

McGuireWoods LLP was named a 2009 “Best Law Firm for Women” by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC. Honoring the 50 winning law firms for their commitment to the retention and advancement of female talent, the list is published in the August/September issue of Working Mother, a popular magazine for career mothers.

“This is an honor that reflects the dedication of our women lawyers to help our firm undertake the initiatives that have led us to be recognized as one of the best law firms for women in the country,” said Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods.

To apply for “Best Law Firms for Women,” McGuireWoods provided detailed information on issues that are most important to the retention and promotion of women lawyers. The 50 winning firms were selected based on their workforce profile, family friendly benefits and policies, flexibility, leadership, compensation, advancement and retention of women, among other criteria.

McGuireWoods offers a wide range of policies that support work/life balance, including one of the most flexible parental leave policies, where associates are able to take up to one year off, and return at their same level and pay. The firm also offers a reduced schedule of up to 60 percent of a full-time work schedule, where an associate can remain on a partnership track.

“We salute the 2009 Best Law Firms for recognizing that making the legal profession work for women is good business for everyone,” said Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media.

Working Mother partnered with Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, a national consulting firm advising attorneys and legal employers on work-life balance and the retention and advancement of women, to survey law firms and select the 50 best firms. The complete list of the 2009 Working Mother & Flex-time Best Law Firms for Women can be found in the August/September issue of Working Mother magazine on newsstands August 11 and at www.workingmother.com.
