Jeffrey Chapman is Third Partner Hire in Three Months in New York
January 3, 2012
McGuireWoods LLP announced today it has continued to expand its financial
services litigation practice in New York with the arrival of Jeffrey J. Chapman,
a veteran litigator joining the firm as a partner.
Chapman joins the firm after spending 12 years in the New York office of
Sullivan & Cromwell, the last five as a partner. At McGuireWoods, he will focus
his practice on representing institutions and individuals across a broad range
of financial services litigation matters that include securities litigation,
regulatory enforcement and white-collar defense and investigations.
Chapman’s arrival comes at a time of rapid expansion of the firm’s litigation
capabilities in New York. Partners Michael Simes and Laurent Wiesel both joined the firm within the past several months.
“We are very excited to have an attorney of Jeff’s caliber joining
McGuireWoods,” said Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods. “He brings with him a wealth of experience
in financial services litigation and we are looking forward to utilizing that
experience for our clients as we continue to expand our capabilities in the
financial services sector.”
Notably, Chapman led the representation of a large financial institution in
multiple state and federal actions brought by purchasers of CDs issued by
Stanford International Bank, owned by Allen Stanford. Chapman also represented a
large foreign financial institution in an investigation by the SEC and
securities regulators in five states concerning the sale of unregistered
securities and broker-dealer licensing matters. Chapman also represented a large
software company in a private antitrust case and was part of a team that
achieved a favorable settlement following a three-month jury trial. Chapman
earned his J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1998 and is a 1995
graduate of Cornell University.
“I am very excited to be joining McGuireWoods, especially at a time of such
rapid growth for the firm,” said Chapman. “Financial services litigation is a
challenging and rapidly changing field. I am looking forward to joining
McGuireWoods as it continues to meet those challenges for its clients, not just
here, but across the country as well.”
