July 2, 2012
McGuireWoods LLP announced today that Benne Hutson, a partner with the firm’s Energy and Environmental Department in
Charlotte, has been appointed by North Carolina Speaker of the House Thom Tillis
to serve as a member of the state’s
Environmental
Management Commission. His two-year term is effective July 1.
The 19-member commission is responsible for adopting rules for the
protection, preservation and enhancement of the state's air and water resources.
Commission members are chosen to represent various interests, including the
medical profession, agriculture, engineering, fish and wildlife, groundwater,
air and water pollution control, municipal or county government and the public
at large.
“I am humbled to have been entrusted with this responsibility and I look
forward to contributing to the commission,” said Hutson, who has maintained a
national practice in virtually all areas of environmental law over the past 30
years.
He has represented clients in a wide range of matters, including compliance
with the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, closure and
post-closure permitting matters regarding solid and hazardous waste, the
development, cleanup and remediation of contaminated sites, and environmental
due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions. He has represented
numerous municipalities, including the largest sewer authority in North and
South Carolina, and companies with regard to wastewater treatment and
discharges.
