Establishing McGuireWoods’ presence in the city more than a century ago, today the Richmond office is the firm’s largest, with approximately 250 lawyers calling it home. Many firm leaders reside in Richmond, including our firm chairman, managing partner, deputy managing partner, executive director, ten members of our board of partners, eight department chairs, and numerous team and industry leaders.

Richmond’s business, industry, government and individuals have frequently turned to McGuireWoods for representation in cases of critical importance, including all facets of corporate, real estate, litigation and finance matters. All firm practice groups are represented in the Richmond office. In addition to representing some of the largest local companies and institutions, many Richmond lawyers maintain practices that are regional, national and international in scope — all backed by a firm with more than 900 lawyers in 19 offices.

A state and regional center for legal work, Richmond is home to the Supreme Court of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. The Virginia General Assembly meets here, and most state administrative agencies are based in Richmond. In addition, the 5th District of the Federal Reserve System, which serves four states and the District of Columbia, is based in the city.

Committed to McGuireWoods’ core value of service to our clients and the communities in which we live and work, the lawyers and staff of the Richmond office give back to the city by supporting organizations in the area such as the American Red Cross, Communities in Schools, Rebuilding Together, Massey Cancer Center, American Heart Association, and the Greater Richmond YMCA. The Richmond office supports our U.S. veterans through pro bono and other outreach programming via local veterans’ clinics and organizations such as the Lewis B. Puller Jr. Veterans’ Benefits Clinic at the William and Mary School of Law; the Poplar Springs Psychiatric Hospital in Chester, Virginia; and Freedom House, a Richmond shelter providing temporary housing to local veterans.
