McGuireWoods LLP established its presence in Wilmington, NC, in 2008, under the legacy firm Helms Mulliss & Wicker, PLLC (established in 1922). In the heart of historic downtown Wilmington, this office complements McGuireWoods’ capabilities in the Carolinas and offers local clients access to the benefits afforded by the firm’s international breadth and practice depth.

Our Wilmington-based lawyers serve some of the country’s largest financial institutions. The office is one of the firm’s primary contacts in representing financial institutions as they go through the process of evaluation, stabilization, remediation and sale of real estate assets in their post-foreclosure ORE and CREO portfolios. The office also represents financial institutions on the lending side regarding new loans and extensions of performing loans.

This office also serves local small and mid-sized businesses, as well as companies from outside the area with legal needs in eastern North Carolina. Through our representation of several developers, the Wilmington office also has significant experience in local real estate development.
