McGuireWoods established its California office in 2005, in response to our clients’ expanding business and legal needs in the region. Our team concentrates on real estate transactions, M&A, private equity and other corporate transactions, debt finance, labor and employment, environmental and land use, financial restructuring and insolvency, general commercial and products liability litigation, international transactions (with a focus on China and Japan), and healthcare.

With extensive experience in a wide range of traditional and non-traditional transactions, our real estate work includes acquisition, sale, leasing and financing, as well as project finance, synthetic leases, sale-leasebacks, public-private partnerships, negotiation of local and state incentives, privatization transactions, and environmental and land use.

Our corporate, debt finance, healthcare and international transactions groups handle many different public and privately held clients and transactions, including representing commercial banks, finance companies, other commercial lenders and private equity funds and their portfolio companies in various types of secured and unsecured financings, mergers and acquisitions, venture finance and other corporate transactions.

Our labor and employment experience encompasses every aspect of the employment relationship, including extensive class action litigation, labor relations, union avoidance training, employment discrimination and unlawful termination litigation, employee benefits, and wage and hour law litigation and counseling.

Our commercial litigation teams include a number of seasoned lawyers with dozens of first chair trial experience who have litigated before state, federal and local administrative agencies and in all arbitration forums, domestic and international. Their experience includes class action, products and mass tort liability, real estate litigation, construction litigation, e-commerce, intellectual property, patents, and antitrust and trade regulation.

Regarding financial restructuring and insolvency litigation and counsel, we represent creditors and contract counterparties in bankruptcy, workouts, creditors' rights litigation and bankruptcy alternatives. We also represent secured and unsecured creditors, indenture trustees, creditors' committees, lessors, licensors, asset purchasers, bankruptcy trustees, and other parties in bankruptcy cases, adversary proceedings, and creditors' rights-related litigation.
