BTI Consulting Group “Client Service A-Team,” 2013 – Ranked the No. 4 “Client Service A-Team” law firm of the 650 law firms serving Fortune 1000 companies, earning a spot on BTI’s “Client Service 30” list. McGuireWoods is also among a select group of law firms in the country to be named to BTI’s Client Service Standouts list.
BTI Consulting Group “Brand Elite 18,” 2013 – Ranked as one of the top firms in the country in a nationwide survey of corporate counsel that examined legal innovation, value of service and overall strength of legal brand.
BTI Consulting Group “Client Service All-Star Report,” 2013 – Seven lawyers were named in the report, which is based on feedback by corporate counsel who identified lawyers, unprompted and by name, as the “absolute best at delivering client service.”
Vault Law 100, 2013 – Ranked one of the “most prestigious” firms in the world by the Vault guide to the top 100 law firms.
Chambers UK, 2013 – Five of McGuireWoods’ London-based lawyers were named “Leaders in their Field,” and two practice areas – “Dispute Resolution: Litigation: Highly Regarded” and “Real Estate: Mainly Mid-Market” – were recognized in the 2013 edition of Chambers UK.
Chambers USA, 2012 – Recognized McGuireWoods’ lawyers 76 times and practice areas 22 times in 2012 guide, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.
Best Lawyers in America ®, Woodward/White Inc., 2013 – 201 lawyers were selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for 2013.
Best Lawyers in America’s “Lawyers of the Year,” Woodward/White Inc., 2013 – Twelve lawyers were selected by their peers as 2013 “Lawyers of the Year” in their respective practice areas and designated metropolitan areas.
U.S. News – Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms,” 2013 – McGuireWoods received a Tier 1 ranking, determined through the firm's overall evaluation, based on a combination of client feedback, peer review and law firm survey responses. The national first-tier rankings were published in a special Money issue released by U.S. News & World Report in November 2012. The national and metropolitan first-tier rankings were featured in the 2013 “Best Law Firms” stand-alone publication. All rankings in all tiers may be found at bestlawfirms.usnews.com.
Legal 500 UK, 2012 – 12 lawyers from the firm’s London office were recommended in the 2012 listing. The Legal 500 is an independent guide, and firms and individuals are recommended purely on merit.
Super Lawyers, Thomson Reuters, 2012 – 157 lawyers named “Super Lawyers,” an honor awarded annually to select lawyers by state. 62 lawyers named Super Lawyers "Rising Stars" for 2012, an honor awarded annually to select lawyers who are 40 years old or younger.
Belgian Legal Awards Group, 2010 – Brussels office named "The Best United States Law Firm in Brussels."
Practice Recognition
The Bond Buyer, 2013 – Ranked the No. 2 bond counsel firm in the Southeast for 2012, according to The Bond Buyer. The firm was also ranked No. 2 in Virginia, No. 3 in Tennessee and No. 3 in Maryland for 2012.
BTI Consulting Group, “BTI Litigation Outlook,” 2013 – Recognized as one of only three “Litigation Powerhouse: Class Action and Tort,” firms in the 2013 edition of BTI Litigation Outlook: Changes, Trends and Opportunities for Law Firms, based on feedback from corporate counsel. Also cited as a “standout” for product liability litigation, routine employment litigation, complex commercial litigation and complex employment litigation, and listed on the honor roll for routine commercial litigation and “Most Feared Litigation Firms.”
Corporate Counsel, 2013 – Listed among the 2013 “Top 500 Go-To Law Firms” for litigation by American Lawyer Media, the publisher of Corporate Counsel magazine, which selected firms by surveying general counsel and analyzing key databases. The listing was published in a January supplement to The American Lawyer and Corporate Counsel.
American Health Lawyers Association, 2012 – Named in the American Health Lawyers Association’s annual “Top Honors” rankings – published in the June 2012 issue of AHLA Connections – recognizing law firms, organizations, government agencies, health plans and consulting firms that encourage and sustain member participation in AHLA. McGuireWoods made the honor roll for membership in Illinois, Virginia and the North Central region and for having members enrolled in 12 of the association’s practice groups.
Law360, 2012 – Ranked on Law360's 2012 Largest Law Firms list. The firm was also named to Law360's 2012 lists of the largest law practice groups in the areas of bankruptcy, competition, employment, energy, environmental, insurance, intellectual property, international trade, media and entertainment, mergers and acquisitions, privacy, product liability, real estate, securities, and white collar.
Legal 500 UK, 2012 – McGuireWoods London was recommended by the guide in six practices areas: Corporate and commercial—Flotations: small and mid-cap; Finance—Bank lending: investment grade debt and syndicated loans; Corporate and commercial—M&A: smaller deals, up to £50m; Dispute resolution—Commercial litigation; Private client– Personal tax, trusts and probate; and Real estate– Commercial property. Thomson Reuters Loan Pricing Corporation, 2012 – Consistently ranked in the top 10 firms nationally in syndicated loans by volume of credit exposure and number of deals by Loan Pricing Corporation’s Law Firm League Table. In 2012, the firm ranked eighth nationally in dollar volume of transactions (exceeding $50 billion) and ranked fifth in the number of deals closed for the year. In these transactions, the firm represented lead arrangers and bookrunners in syndicated debt financings, as well as lead arrangers/administrative agents in major syndicated finance transactions.
Finance Monthly, 2011 – Named the “2011 Insurance and Reinsurance Firm of the Year, USA.”
The Legal 500 Directory, 2010 – Wrote that our London-based labor and employment team’s “knowledge and work ethic is outstanding.”
Thomson Reuters Capital Markets Review of Legal Advisors, 2010 – Ranked third by monetary value in the United States among top law firms for serving as issuer’s counsel for global equity issuances on behalf of issuers in 2009. We represented issuers in connection with global equity offerings representing more than $19 billion in proceeds; and ranked in the top five for U.S. common stock offerings on behalf of issuers and U.S. equity and equity-related issuances.
Wealth Management: Chambers USA, 2010, 2009 – One of two firms in the United States to have its wealth management practice receive the highest possible ranking – Band 1 for Wealth Management: Nationwide.
Employment Law360 Litigation Almanac, 2009 – Ranked as having one of the "Top 10 Busiest Employment, Civil Rights and ADA Practices" in the United States.
Diversity Recognition
Equality Illinois Recognition, 2012 – Selected by Equality Illinois for the second year as one of the top Illinois law firms with a growing commitment to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) inclusiveness in the workplace.
Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2007 – One of only 50 law firms in the United States named by Working Mother magazine as a “Best Law Firm for Women.” Co-sponsored by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers, the award honors law firms for demonstrated commitment to the retention and advancement of female talent.
Minority Corporate Counsel Association 2011 Innovator Award – One of five recipients of the award, which is bestowed upon U.S. in-house legal departments, law firms, bar associations or legal organizations in recognition of their recruitment and retention of diverse lawyers.
Multicultural Law Magazine – Named a "Top 100 Law Firm for Diversity" and a "Top 100 Law Firm for Women Lawyers” from 2009 to 2011. Also named a “Top 25 Law Firm for African American Lawyers” in 2011 and 2009.
National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, 2011 – Received the Firm Appreciation Award in recognition of the firm’s support for NAPABA.
University of Maryland Black Law Student Association, 2011 – Received the 2011 Firm Diversity Award.
Balance Life Work Place Award, 2010 – Awarded the 2010 Balance Life Work Place Award in the large firm category by the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.
