Alan joined McGuireWoods in June 2010 and practices within the firm's Corporate Department, focusing on debt finance, M&A and technology. He also has experience advising on general corporate and commercial matters.

During his tenure at McGuireWoods, Alan has advised on borrower and lender side financing, sale and purchases of shares and businesses, corporate restructuring, joint ventures, shareholders agreements, takeovers and IPOs.

A special emphasis is placed on his experience of a wide-range of technology matters including, cross-border licensing agreements, trademark and copyright protection, cross-border data transfers, data protection, data security, cloud computing, privacy, and export controls.

Alan also has significant international litigation experience spanning four years, including having assisted in relation to the largest group litigation in the High Court in recent years. He was admitted as a solicitor in December 2011.

Acted for the Lender in the amendment and extension of US $5 billion corporate facility secured by gold bullion, taking the lead in negotiating and drafting the UK security documentation for a major financial and commodity derivative exchange.

Acted for the Lender in the drafting and negotiation of a highly bespoke several letter of credit facility valued at US $250 million for a major financial and commodity derivative exchange.

Acted for the Lender in the amendment and extension of a US $1 billion revolving credit facility for corporate purposes, for a major financial and commodity derivative exchange.

Acted for the Lender in the co-ordination and negotiation of security for a $625 million facility, across Italy, Germany, France, Finland, the Netherlands and the UK.

Acted for the Lender in the amendment and extension of a US $52 million loan facility for a major Pacific Islands based restaurant franchise.

Advice to a NYSE listed corporation in the petroleum additives industry on re-structuring their pan-European corporate structure.

Advice to Allied Irish Bank on the management, negotiation and perfection of security for the financing of a multimillion pound investment in London real estate.

Advice to a Dubai based consortium on the financing and purchase, through a corporate vehicle, of a high profile retail property in London’s West End, for circa £40 million.

Advice to a U.S. based lender for the perfection of security in England and Wales in relation to a $17 million term loan. 

Advice to a leading defense simulation developer on the management of their intellectual property registrations and portfolio.

Advice to a multinational healthcare supplement supplier on the management of a significant intellectual property licensing dispute.

Counsel to the restructuring of a European based consultancy enterprise.

Defense of a leading commodities trader in a high profile personal injury claim brought by circa 30,000 claimants and resultant costs litigation. This dispute was one of the largest class actions ever brought before a UK court.
