Mr. Freedlander focuses his practice on a variety of interests in bankruptcy matters (including debtor, creditor committee, secured lender, lessor and individual creditor interests), restructurings, workouts, general corporate matters and complex commercial transactions. These experiences have included counseling clients in numerous industry sectors and niches including heavy manufacturing and distribution, mining, food, gaming, construction, media, health care and retail.

Among the Chapter 11 debtors he has represented are Weirton Steel Corporation, Special Metals Corporation, Brill Media Company LLC, Pittsburgh Hockey Associates d/b/a The Pittsburgh Penguins, Clark Candy Company, and the Italian Oven, Inc. He also represented the Chapter 11 trustee in the Allegheny Health Education & Research Foundation case, and the Pittsburgh Food and Beverage case. In addition, he has recently served as counsel to the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in the cases of Creative Engineered Polymer Products, LLC and Maxim Crane.

He has represented the interests of debtor-in-possession lenders in cases including WCI Steel Company and J&L Structural, Inc. Mr. Freedlander also regularly represents purchasers of assets and businesses that are distressed or subject to bankruptcy proceedings, including the recent acquisition of a business unit from the Dana Corp. bankruptcy cases and the racetrack assets and slot machine licensing rights to Mid-State Raceway. He also represented the interests of a private equity fund in the NextWave bankruptcy, which representation contributed to a substantial increase in return to equity interests in NextWave.

He speaks regularly regarding bankruptcy topics at various continuing legal education seminars, and he has been a guest lecturer on restructuring topics at the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh and the Duquesne University Law School.
