Mr. Richardson's primary focus is as bond counsel and underwriter's counsel for hospitals, retirement communities, colleges, universities, secondary schools and other nonprofits, including The University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Sentara Health System, Episcopal High School, and virtually all of the continuing care retirement communities in Virginia. He also served as bond counsel in connection with the first public Build America Bond financing in the United States on behalf of The University of Virginia and on the only two tobacco securitization transactions undertaken by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Mr. Richardson also devotes a significant portion of his practice to representing banks and other financial institutions that issue letters of credit and liquidity facilities in connection with tax-exempt transactions. He also frequently represents borrowers, trustees and industrial development authorities on tax-exempt financings and public-private partnerships.
