White House Announces Timothy Heaphy as U.S. Attorney Nominee
McGuireWoods LLP partner Timothy Heaphy has been nominated by President Obama to be the United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia. Heaphy is a partner in the firm’s Government Investigations Department and works out of the firm’s Charlottesville and Richmond offices.
“The president has made a wise choice and has picked a terrific lawyer,” said Richard Cullen, Chairman of McGuireWoods and former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 1991-1993. “While we will hate to say goodbye to Tim, we are pleased for him and know that he will be a great United States Attorney.”
As a partner with the firm, Heaphy has represented numerous individuals and businesses in various white-collar criminal investigations. He has experience in a wide range of matters, including securities, public corruption, environmental crimes, tax, government contracting, campaign finance, conflicts of interest, fraud and conspiracy, as well as congressional investigations.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Heaphy served for 11 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in both the District of Columbia and in the Western District of Virginia. In 2006, Heaphy was awarded the John Marshall Award for Excellence in Litigation by the Department of Justice, one of the Department’s top honors.
The White House announcement can be accessed online and Heaphy’s nomination must still be approved by the Senate.
