Seven McGuireWoods Lawyers Among Business North Carolina’s 2019 Legal Elite

Kitchin, Carter Named Lawyers of the Year in Antitrust, Tax

January 7, 2019

Seven McGuireWoods lawyers have been selected for inclusion on Business North Carolina’s 2019 Legal Elite list, including Lawyer of the Year honors for Hal Kitchin and Jean Gordon Carter in their respective categories of antitrust and tax/estate planning.

The recognition is significant because winners are chosen by a statewide vote of North Carolina lawyers conducted annually by the state’s largest business magazine. The honorees include lawyers from all three of McGuireWoods’ North Carolina offices.

Kitchin, a Wilmington partner, focuses on business, commercial and real estate litigation, as well as regulatory matters. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in business litigation and disputes, and in antitrust, land use permitting, eminent domain, construction and breach of contract cases.

Carter, a partner based in Raleigh, co-chairs the firm’s nationally recognized private wealth services group and focuses her practice on estate planning and administration, tax-exempt organizations and tax, including North Carolina tax matters. The National Law Journal honored her as a Trusts and Estates Trailblazer.

Top vote getters in each of 16 categories are designated Lawyer of the Year for that category and earn enshrinement in the Business North Carolina Legal Elite Hall of Fame.
