In early 2000, McGuireWoods opened its first Pennsylvania office. With the addition of 20 lawyers from Sable Pusateri Rosen Gordon & Adams, LLC on January 2, 2001, our presence here was significantly enhanced. In addition to expanding our energy, and emerging growth and technology practices, from Pittsburgh we concentrate on labor and employment matters, business counseling, commercial litigation, real estate and environmental law, corporate finance and securities, and bankruptcy and creditor/debtor rights.

The Pittsburgh office is the home base of our coal team. This group has a wealth of experience working with coal producers, coal transportation companies, utilities and coal service providers, to tackle challenges in virtually every aspect of the industry. Our experience in this area includes long-term supply contracting, permitting, environmental compliance, surety and bonding, reclamation, labor relations, governmental regulation, royalties, contract compliance, force majeure declarations, reserve acquisition and sale, price redeterminations, and merchant trading. The coal team sponsors an annual briefing for industry executives and general counsel in Pittsburgh on current topics of interest to the coal industry. The seminar has become one of the more notable of such events and provides timely information on emerging issues for producers, utilities, transporters and industry service providers.
