Diverse Leadership

As with any successful business initiative, the diversity mandate begins and ends with management. Our management’s commitment to recruiting, training and retaining diverse and women lawyers is a core component of the firm’s strategic plan. Perhaps the best evidence of the plan’s implementation lies in the number of leadership positions held by minority and women partners within the firm and in our local communities.

  • Gordon Alphonso, an African-American partner, serves as co-chair of the Energy and Environmental Department.
  • Kimberly Cacheris, partner, serves on the firm’s board of partners and is the national chair of the Women’s Leadership Forum.
  • Alan Cason, an African-American partner, chairs the Public Finance Department. He previously served as the office managing partner of the Baltimore office and was the chairman of the Strategic Plan for 2010–2013..
  • Rebecca Chaffin, partner, serves on the firm’s board of partners.
  • Dorothea Dickerman, partner, leads McGuireWoods’ transactional real estate lawyers’ practice for the firm’s Washington, D.C., and Tysons Corner offices.
  • Kathleen Dooley, partner, sits on the firm’s Pension Committee.
  • James Dyke Jr., an African-American partner, was formerly the secretary of the Virginia Department of Education, is chairman of the University of the District of Columbia’s board of trustees and has served as chairman of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. He has also served as chairman of the Northern Virginia Roundtable, the Northern Virginia Community College Educational Foundation and the Emerging Business Forum.
  • James Gelman, a Latino partner, chairs the firm’s Hispanic/Latino affinity group and sits on the firm’s Diversity Committee.
  • Melissa Glassman is the deputy managing partner of business development. Previously she served on the firm’s eight-member Executive Committee. She also has served as the department chair of the Commercial Litigation Department and was the Tysons Corner managing partner.
  • Mike Graff, an LGBT partner, chairs the firm’s LGBT affinity group and sits on the firm’s Diversity Committee.
  • Jonathan Harmon, an African-American partner, serves of the firm’s board of partners and holds a leadership role in the firm’s Trial Training Program.
  • Patricia Hosmer, partner, serves on the Associates Committee.
  • Sid Kanazawa, an Asian-American partner, chairs the firm’s Asian Pacific affinity group and sits on the firm’s Diversity Committee. He also serves as the general counsel of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.
  • Joanne Katsantonis, partner, is the co-chair of the Energy and Environmental Department.
  • Greg Kilpatrick, an African American partner, serves on the Associates Committee.
  • Sally Doubet King, partner, serves on the Associates Committee.
  • Naho Kobayashi, an Asian American partner, co-chairs the firm’s Recruiting Committee.
  • Ava Lias-Booker, an African-American woman, is the Baltimore managing partner, serves on the firm’s board of partners and heads the Baltimore Commercial Litigation Department.
  • Nancy Little, partner, serves on the firm’s board of partners and has previously been the managing partner of the firm’s corporate departments. She also has served as chair of the Real Estate Department.
  • Curtis Mack, an African American partner, heads the Atlanta Labor and Employment Department.
  • Amy Manning, partner, serves on the Executive Committee and is on the firm’s board of partners. She also co-leads the firm’s Life Sciences Industry group.
  • Rachel Mantz, partner, sits on the firm’s Opinions Committee.
  • George Martin, an African-American partner, serves as the office managing partner of McGuireWoods’ largest office, in Richmond, Va., and sits on the firm’s Pension Committee.
  • Kristen Moye, partner, sits on the firm’s Opinions Committee.
  • Raj Natarajan, an Asian American partner, serves on the firm’s Finance Committee.
  • Brian Parker, an African-American partner, is the Pittsburgh office managing partner. He also serves on the firm’s Board of Partners and co-leads the Life Sciences Industry group.
  • Jane Whitt Sellers, partner, sits on the firm’s Opinions Committee.
  • Marta Stein, partner, is national co-chair of McGuireWoods' Banking Litigation group and serves on the firm’s Finance Committee.
  • Jacquelyn Stone, an African-American partner, is co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Committee and serves on the firm’s Political Action Committee. She has served as chair of the Recruitment Committee and as the firm’s hiring partner, as well as a member of the firm’s board of partners. She has received the DuPont Women Lawyer’s Network Themis Award, which annually recognizes a woman who has positively impacted the business of DuPont by promoting legal excellence through the success, development and professional advancement of the women lawyers representing DuPont.
  • Barbara Williams is the firm’s deputy general counsel and serves on the firm’s Ethics Committee.
  • Elizabeth Wren, partner, serves as the national co-chair of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Forum and sits on the firm’s Diversity Committee.
