The firm provides a choice of two plans administered by UnitedHealthcare. Both plans are Preferred Provider Organization plans and both plans qualify you to contribute to a Health Savings Account. McGuireWoods also makes Health Savings Account contributions on behalf of employees. Coverage is available for spouse or domestic partner and children.
There is a choice of a High Option and Low Option dental plan in all locations. The High Option plan covers adult and dependent orthodontia. Both plans offer annual exams and cleanings with network providers at no charge. Coverage is effective the first day of employment and there is no waiting period for pre-existing conditions. Coverage is available for spouse, domestic partner and/or dependents.
Staff employees are eligible to participate on the first day of the month following date of hire. This is a comprehensive routine vision plan. Benefits include coverage for an eye exam and contacts or glasses each calendar year. The network includes many independent optometrists. Coverage is available for spouse, domestic partner and/or dependents.
Flexible Dependent Care Spending Account
This account allows you to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for child care expenses. Participants may contribute up to $5000 each calendar year.
Retirement Savings Plan
All permanent employees age 18 and older are automatically enrolled for a 4% pre-tax contribution to the firm’s 401(k) plan. Employees may defer between 1% and 40% of their salary into the plan. The firm matches 25% of your contribution up to a maximum of $1000. After one year of service, the firm makes an annual Employer Retirement Contribution of 7.5% of your earnings from that plan year to your account.
Employees are eligible for a variety of pre-tax parking and transit benefits depending on office location.
The firm provides both short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD). Full-time employees are eligible for STD after one year of employment. Short-term disability is paid at 80% of salary.
LTD benefits are payable after the disability lasts for at least 180 days. LTD benefits are paid at 60% of the employee’s base salary and continues for the duration of the disability or until age 65. The firm provides the entire cost of coverage of STD and LTD insurance.
Basic Life Insurance
The firm provides full-time staff employees group term life insurance equal to two times the employee’s annual salary up to a maximum benefits of $300,000. This coverage is at no cost to the employee. Supplemental Life & Accidental Death & Dismemberment insurance plans are also available for employees to purchase at group rates.
Business Travel Insurance
The firm provides up to $500,000 of Business Travel Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance for staff employees when traveling on firm business. Benefits are paid in the event of accidental death, dismemberment, partial loss of sight or permanent and total disability.
The firm will reimburse employees up to a maximum of $5000 per child for adoption related expenses. Most expenses directly related to the adoption are reimbursable.
The firm will reimburse non-lawyer employees 80% of the tuition cost up to an annual maximum of $5,250 for college level courses that are related to an employee’s position with the firm.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
This resource offers employee and household members professional counseling, child care and elder care, legal and financial consultant referral services. The program provides for 4 free counseling sessions per issue.
Long Term Care Insurance
All Partners and employees (full time and part time personnel with a permanent work schedule of at least 17.5 hours per week) are eligible. Long Term Care Insurance provides a cash benefit for nursing home or assisted living care. Options are also available for inflation protection and home care. Coverage may be elected for yourself, your spouse, your parents or grandparents. Coverage may also be elected for your spouse’s parents or grandparents.
Backup Care is a program designed to provide support to employees/Partners when they experience a temporary breakdown in their normal care arrangements allowing employees to get to work.
Identity Theft Insurance
The Firm provides Identity Theft Insurance to all employees/Partners at no cost. This insurance provides help in the case that you or your spouse and any children living at your residence up the age of 23 identity is stolen.
The firm closes to celebrate 9 set holidays each year and may grant an additional holiday at its discretion.
Employees accrue annual leave to use for vacation, personal and sick time based on years of service. After 10 years of employment, employees receive a bonus week to be used in that year.
