October 7, 2014

McCormick Place
Chicago, IL

Senior counsel Brian Malkin and partner Senator Evan Bayh spoke on the respective topics, "Issues Concerning Development of Rare Disease and Special Population Medical Devices," and "A Changing Landscape: Impact of the 2014 Elections & How to Get Involved," at this event. Brian moderated a panel on recent developments to help medical device companies succeed in developing technologies for rare and pediatric patients and other populations. The development of medical devices for rare diseases and pediatric populations poses special challenges from a regulatory and business perspective. Expert knowledge of special regulatory initiatives, clinical trial design and financing options as well as understanding reimbursement to recover development and production costs are required for medical device companies to succeed in this environment. Senator Bayh participated in a CEOs Unplugged Series panel discussion, where speakers discussed the most crucial issues facing the industry, drawing from personal observations and experiences across their fields.
