Sarah Thompson Podcast Discusses EU General Data Protection Regulation
December 12, 2016
London employment lawyer and Certified Information Privacy Professional Sarah Thompson discusses key features of the EU General Data Protection Regulation
in an Xpert HR podcast. Due to take effect in May 2018, the regulation poses new complexities for employers and raises fines for noncompliance to up to €20
million, or 4 percent of worldwide annual turnover.
In the interview, Thompson examines practice steps employers can take to ensure compliance with this new regulation. The episode also covers changes to
employee consent and privacy notices under the new rule, steps to respond to subject access requests and data breaches, data transfers outside of the
European Economic Area, and the application of the rule to data processors.
The Dec. 2 podcast, titled “Introduction to the General Data Protection Regulation,” and episode transcript are available online. She also wrote a
related article titled “General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): an employer’s guide,” published Dec. 7 in Xpert HR’s Personnel Today.
