Chris Ripple Quoted on New Food Safety Rule in Transport Topics Article

April 12, 2016

For the first time, those who violate sanitary food transport rules can be criminally prosecuted, notes McGuireWoods Charlottesville lawyer Chris Ripple. The April 11 Transport Topics article, titled “FDA Issues Food Safety Rule,” discusses new requirements by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, intended to prevent contamination of human and animal food during transit. Chris adds that the rules allow greater flexibility regarding temperature controls and place primary responsibility on shippers for determining necessary sanitary practices, although others in the transportation chain are still responsible for identifying unsafe practices and can be penalized for failure to do so.
