August 11, 2017

The American Lawyer and its sister publication The Recorder published an Aug. 2 story featuring McGuireWoods partner Elliot Katz, who joined the firm’s San Francisco office on Aug. 1. The article, titled “McGuireWoods’ Latest Lateral Recruit a DLA Piper Driverless Pro,” detailed Katz’s experience advising automakers on legal issues involving automated vehicles, including liability, insurance and policy matters.

The article noted McGuireWoods Consulting’s recent addition of an Emerging Technologies Team, bolstering the firm’s already formidable practice advising technology companies at the intersection of law, regulation and business. The story also highlighted the firm’s continued growth through a series of recent high-profile hires.

Law360 also profiled Katz, in an Aug. 3 story titled “ McGuireWoods Nabs DLA Piper Connected Car Pro.” The article detailed Katz’s experience in handling data and cybersecurity matters and other legal issues, as well as regulatory and policy issues arising from the automotive sector. In an interview with Law360, Katz said he was drawn to McGuireWoods’ “deep roots in the traditional automotive sector, and the fact that the firm has an office in Pittsburgh, the home of Carnegie Mellon University and some of the latest advancements in car tech.” He noted that the firm’s longtime experience representing automotive clients sets it apart from other San Francisco technology-focused law firms.
