R. Craig Wood Recognized for Contributions in Education Law

The Education Law Association presented R. Craig Wood, a partner in McGuireWoods’ Charlottesville, Va., office, the 2009 M. A. McGhehey Award at its annual meeting in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 22. The award is presented each year by ELA in recognition of outstanding service in and contributions to the field of education law.

Craig, formerly president of ELA, is a frequent writer and speaker on education law. He also has served on the boards of directors for the ELA and the Council of School Attorneys of the National School Boards Association. He is a past president of the Virginia Council of School Attorneys. Wood regularly defends businesses, colleges and school boards in a variety of employment and regulatory compliance matters. He conducts training on union avoidance, manages union campaigns for employers, and handles labor disputes and employment litigation. He was recently named a “Super Lawyer” for labor and employment law by Corporate Counsel magazine in its November 2009 edition.

The Education Law Association, formerly NOLPE, is a national, nonprofit, nonadvocacy member association that promotes interest in and understanding of the legal framework of education and the rights of students, parents, school boards, and school employees. M. A. McGhehey was a founding member of ELA and served as its executive director from 1962-82.
