McGuireWoods LLP presented a $3,500 scholarship to each of four law students at the Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys in Law and Business, Inc.’s annual conference March 17 - 19, 2010, at The Ritz-Carlton in Atlanta. The institute helps women of color attorneys develop their careers and manage diversity issues in the workplace.

McGuireWoods Scholarship Recipients

  • Adrienne Baker, Harvard University
  • Bertila Boyd, Mercer University
  • Samika Boyd, Berkeley University
  • Chanel Gray, William & Mary University

The firm has been the scholarship sponsor for the past five years, as well as a platinum level conference sponsor. The scholarships were presented by McGuireWoods’ attorney Halima Horton, a lawyer in the firm's Labor and Employment Department, who served on the conference planning committee and chaired the scholarship committee.

“These young, talented women were selected because of their academic excellence and leadership,” said Jacquelyn Stone, McGuireWoods’ hiring partner. “We are very happy to help support these exceptional women as they pursue their legal careers, and we continue to encourage minority women and men to pursue careers in law.”
