McGuireWoods and McGuireWoods Consulting Expand Energy and Climate Change Capabilities with New Hires

June 10, 2010

McGuireWoods LLP and McGuireWoods Consulting LLC announced today they are continuing to expand their energy and climate change capabilities in Washington, D.C., with the hiring of Cameron Prell and Brian Vanderbloemen. Including Prell and Vanderbloemen, the groups have added four attorneys and three consultants this year.

Prell joins the law firm as a senior counsel with the Energy and Climate Change Industry Team. Vanderbloemen joins the consulting group as a vice president of federal public affairs. Both will assist clients with matters relating to energy and energy policy, regulation and climate change.

Prior to joining the consulting group, Vanderbloemen served as the director of federal government affairs for Duke Energy. He worked daily with members of Congress and their staff, and he was responsible for legislative matters related to nuclear energy policy, energy efficiency, electric transmission, coal supply chain issues, electric transportation, economic recovery efforts and financial regulatory reform. He has also worked for the energy trade association Edison Electric Institute, as well as served on Capitol Hill for almost a decade as legislative assistant to Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) in his House and Senate offices.

Prior to joining the law firm, Prell was with the Washington, D.C., office of Williams Mullen. For more than a decade, he has advised public and private sector clients regarding energy and climate change matters, including market-based greenhouse gas cap-and-trade regimes, carbon market oversight, carbon risk management strategies, and electric energy markets, as well as federal and state energy regulations and rulemakings. He has written extensively on transitioning to a low carbon economy, and he speaks regularly nationwide on federal climate policies, carbon management strategies, and clean energy incentives.

“Just two years ago, we knew that energy regulation and energy policy were going to be areas of increasing importance for our clients, and we needed to be able to meet those needs, from a legal and policy perspective, and these hires help us do just that,” said Jim Kerr, co-chairman of the law firm’s Energy and Climate Change Industry Team. “Brian and Cameron are great additions to their respective teams, and we are looking forward to utilizing their skills as we expand the range of services we offer our clients.”

L.F. Payne, president of McGuireWoods Consulting, added, “Brian and Cameron are very important additions to our growing energy teams, as they address the needs of our clients in an environment with an increased focus on energy and energy regulation – not just in Washington, but throughout the country.”
