Senate Confirms Brzezinski for Ambassadorship

October 19, 2011

On Tuesday night, the U.S. Senate confirmed partner Mark Brzezinski to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden. Mark has been with McGuireWoods since 2001. Brzezinski was nominated by President Obama in September, and he expects to assume his new duties within the next month.

"There will be no ambassador who will be as proud to represent the United States or will work harder on behalf of the president and secretary of state than Mark," said Richard Cullen, chairman of McGuireWoods. "His partners at the firm share the pride of his wonderful and distinguished family over his new position."

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Brzezinski served on the National Security Council staff as a director of Southeast European affairs. Prior to that appointment, he served as a director for Russian/Eurasian affairs on the National Security Council, where he was White House coordinator for U.S. democracy and rule of law assistance programs in the region. In November 2010, he was appointed to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. In the spring of 2005, he served as an adjunct professor at Columbia University's School for International Affairs.
