June 16, 2014

Durham C. McCormick Jr. has joined McGuireWoods LLP’s Tax and Employee Benefits Department as a partner in the firm’s Houston office.

McCormick brings nearly a decade of experience advising clients in the energy industry with significant engagements for the development and financing of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar and geothermal facilities. He advises clients on production and energy investment tax credits, project development agreements, project acquisitions and sales, power purchase agreements, financings, and federal and state tax planning and structuring, and other transactional matters.

“Durham’s experience in advising clients on energy tax credits, tax structuring, and project development makes him a valuable addition to our team,” said Craig Bell, chairman of McGuireWoods’ Tax and Employee Benefits Department. “We are excited to welcome him to the firm.”

“Durham brings a wide-ranging corporate practice that will enhance the services we provide for our clients, particularly those in the energy industry,” said Tom Farrell, managing partner of the firm’s Houston office.

McCormick comes to McGuireWoods from the Seattle office of Gordon Thomas Honeywell LLP, where he was a partner. He earned his LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center in 2004 and his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2003. He is licensed to practice in Washington and Oregon and his Texas bar admission is pending.

McGuireWoods’ Tax and Employee Benefits Department includes lawyers from many of the firm’s U.S. and international offices who cover the full spectrum of federal, state and local taxes for clients ranging from closely held entities to Fortune 500 companies.
