McGuireWoods Adds Intellectual Property and Patents Partner in Dallas

August 18, 2014

Jason W. Cook has joined McGuireWoods LLP’s Intellectual Property Litigation and Patents Department as a partner in the firm’s fast-growing Dallas office, bringing extensive experience in complex patent litigation in the technology sector.

Cook has litigated patent cases in numerous federal district courts and before the U.S. International Trade Commission. He is particularly experienced in the Eastern District of Texas, a hot-spot jurisdiction for patent litigation, where he has been involved in more than 80 separate cases.

Cook comes to McGuireWoods from the Dallas office of Alston & Bird LLP, where he was a partner in the firm’s intellectual property litigation group. His cases have focused on a broad range of technology disciplines including wireless and wired communications, data encryption, semiconductor operation and fabrication, medical devices, liquid crystal displays, blade servers, chemical vapor deposition and Internet-based business methods.

In 2013, Cook was selected as an inaugural “IP Star” by Managing IP magazine, and was chosen one of the “Best Lawyers in Dallas” for 2013 in D Magazine.

“Jason’s experience trying cases in the Eastern District of Texas complements the team we recently added to offer a full set of intellectual property offerings in Dallas,” said Brian C. Riopelle, chairman of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation and Patents Department. “We are delighted to welcome him to the group.”

“We welcome Jason’s arrival to the firm as we continue to expand McGuireWoods’ presence in Texas,” said Akash Sethi, managing partner of the firm’s Dallas office.

“I’m impressed with McGuireWoods’ world-class breadth of experience and the service the firm delivers to its clients,” Cook said. “I’m excited to be on the ground floor of what the firm is building here in Dallas.”

Cook received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1997 from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a National Merit Scholar and studied in the engineering honors program. He received his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2000 and pursued LL.M. studies at the University College of London.
