Press Release

Noted McGuireWoods Real Estate Lawyer Gregory Riegle Will Assume Leadership of Firm’s Tysons Corner Office

July 30, 2015

Gregory Riegle of McGuireWoods, one of the Washington, D.C., region’s leading commercial real estate and land use lawyers, has been appointed the firm’s new office managing partner for its Tysons Corner, Virginia, office.

Riegle assumes his new duties on Aug. 1, succeeding partner Jonathan Rak who has headed McGuireWoods’ Tysons Corner office since 2008.

“Jonathan set a high bar in more than seven years of providing leadership for this office, but I am ready for this challenge and deeply honored that the firm entrusted me with this great responsibility,” Riegle said. “I will give it my best every day.”

McGuireWoods Managing Partner Tom Cabaniss, in announcing the leadership transition, said that having a deep pool of talented lawyers ready, willing and able to assume key leadership roles within the firm has been integral to McGuireWoods’ growth.

“The firm's ongoing success is, in no small part, attributable to outstanding lawyers such as those who have done such a fine job and those prepared to build on their many accomplishments,” he said. “We are deeply grateful to Jonathan for his excellent leadership as the Tysons Corner office managing partner. We also thank Greg and know he will do an outstanding job.”

Riegle concentrates his practice in land use, zoning and redevelopment matters. He began his real estate career as a professional urban planner and worked extensively in the public and private sectors before joining McGuireWoods.

Riegle has substantial experience representing major land developers, owners, companies, institutions, lenders and landlords. Among the types of development he has facilitated are office and industrial parks, shopping centers, regional shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, residential subdivisions, master planned communities, and elderly housing uses. He routinely handles the proceedings for rezoning, special exceptions, special permits, variances, comprehensive plan amendments, appeals and zoning ordinance amendments before local government authorities in Northern Virginia and Washington. Much of his work is closely tied to the region's existing and expanding Metro rail transit corridors.

Riegle has been ranked in Chambers USA’s esteemed guide, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, each year since 2008. He also has been included in The Best Lawyers in America five times, most recently this year. He earned a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in urban planning from Michigan State University in 1987 and 1989, respectively. He earned his law degree from George Mason University in 1999.
