McGuireWoods Appoints Christina Egan Chicago Office Managing Partner, Succeeding Amy Manning

May 26, 2016

Christina Egan, an accomplished white collar litigator and former federal prosecutor, will become McGuireWoods’ new office managing partner in Chicago effective on June 1, Managing Partner Thomas Cabaniss announced. She succeeds Amy Manning, who becomes the new chair of the firm’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation Department.

Egan is a partner in the firm’s Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation Department. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, she served 10 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, including four years as a deputy chief. She is part of a McGuireWoods team of former prosecutors that has been hired by Chicago’s police oversight agency to conduct an independent review of police-involved shootings in the city.

Last year, Egan and two McGuireWoods colleagues received an Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Service from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Chicago Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for their efforts to secure a favorable outcome for a client in a federal civil rights suit that alleged mistreatment by Chicago police officers.

She has been an adjunct professor at Northwestern School of Law for eight years, during which she has taught students trial advocacy and, since 2012, RICO law.

“Christina is a fine lawyer and a proven leader who will continue our tradition of excellence in Chicago,” Cabaniss said. “We thank Amy for the dynamic leadership she provided as office managing partner.”

“I am honored to be asked to serve as office managing partner and hope to maintain the high standard that Amy set during her tenure,” Egan said. “She is an outstanding leader.”

Manning became the Chicago office managing partner in 2012. She has served as co-leader of the firm’s life sciences industry group, co-chair of its national recruiting committee, and as a member of its Women’s Leadership Forum. Manning is co-founder of the Chicago Women Antitrust Lawyers Network and co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law’s Committee Operations.

The 115-lawyer Chicago office is McGuireWoods’ third-largest, serving clients regionally and nationally in multiple industries, particularly healthcare and life sciences, technology, banking, energy, and franchise and distribution. It is home to the firm’s nationally recognized antitrust group.
