McGuireWoods Partner Amy Manning Honored for Support of Kosovo American Education Fund

May 4, 2016

Amy Manning, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Chicago office, and the firm have been honored by the American Councils for International Education’s Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) as the inaugural recipients of the David Gotaas Community Supporter Award.

Manning accepted the award Wednesday, May 4 at a KAEF fundraising event in New York City. The award is named in honor of Gotaas, a member of American Councils’ Board of Trustees for six years and champion of KAEF, a perpetual fund dedicated to providing promising Kosovars with the opportunity for a master’s level education at America’s best universities. Gotaas passed away in May 2015 at age 64.

Manning and McGuireWoods were selected to receive the award for their support of KAEF. The firm provided an internship to Arben Limani, now the director of Kosovo’s Privatization Agency, during his KAEF fellowship at Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2011. McGuireWoods also hosted a Chicago trade event featuring remarks by Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga in November 2015. In addition, Manning was honored for reflecting values Gotaas exemplified, such as commitment to community service and education.

Manning, an accomplished antitrust litigator, was elected to McGuireWoods’ eight-member Executive Committee in 2011 and became managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office in 2012. She has served as co-leader of the firm’s life sciences industry group, co-chair of its national recruiting committee, and as a member of its Women’s Leadership Forum. Manning is co-founder of the Chicago Women Antitrust Lawyers Network and co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law’s Committee Operations. In addition, formerly chaired the Chicago American Diabetes Association, is a member of its board, and serves on the board of the Institute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

“My parents always emphasized education in our household. I grew up understanding the difference education can make for an individual and a community,” Manning said. “It’s an honor to receive an award named after a fellow education champion, David Gotaas. I’m grateful to American Councils and KAEF and proud to support a cause so important to the future of a young country like Kosovo.”
