McGuireWoods senior counsel Melissa W. Nelson and associates Daniel M. Mahfood and Courtney A. McCormick, all based in the firm’s Jacksonville, Florida, office, have been selected by their peers for inclusion on the 2016 Florida Legal Elite list in Florida Trend magazine’s July issue.
The 13th annual listing is based on voting by Florida lawyers, who were asked to name counsel they’ve worked with and would recommend to others. Fewer than 2 percent of active Florida bar members who practice in the state made this year’s lists.
Nelson was named to the Legal Elite list for commercial litigation. Her practice focuses on defense of Title VII and Title IX claims, and white-collar criminal defense. She represents employers and educational institutions before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, arbitrators and mediators. Nelson also assists clients with internal investigations, audits and white-collar criminal investigations.
Mahfood and McCormick were honored on the Legal Elite’s Up & Comers list, a select group of 130 lawyers under age 40. Mahfood is a member of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation Department and represents clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts. McCormick practices with the Restructuring and Insolvency Department and has significant experience handling reorganizations, liquidations, financial restructuring and adversary proceeding litigation.
