McGuireWoods’ Ryan Purpura Elected to Energy & Mineral Law Foundation Board of Trustees

McGuireWoods Pittsburgh partner Ryan Purpura, chair of the firm’s oil and gas section, has been elected to the board of trustees of the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF) — the leading national educational organization of lawyers who represent energy companies. EMLF, a nonprofit that promotes the study of laws and regulations governing natural resources development and energy use, comprises outside counsel, general counsel, corporate executives and other industry professionals.

“I am honored to serve alongside an esteemed group of professionals who are essential to the development of natural resources and energy law,” Purpura said.

Purpura was one of five new members elected to the board of trustees during EMLF’s May 21 meeting. At the annual event, McGuireWoods associate Jonathan Wolfson also spoke about environmental regulation and litigation challenges facing energy companies operating in the Louisiana wetlands.

Purpura represents leading exploration and production and midstream companies, private equity and hedge funds, and other financial institutions in major stock and asset transactions. Before joining McGuireWoods, he served as associate general counsel for LINN Energy, the first upstream master limited partnership, and served as associate general counsel for firm client CONSOL Energy Inc. Purpura also lectures at various trade organizations and institutions of higher learning, such as Duquesne University School of Law, on oil and gas and energy law.

He is an advisory board member of the Institute for Energy Law, which counts leading energy companies and attorneys among its international membership. He also is an advisory board member for Penn State’s Energy Land Management Program, the first program on the East Coast certified by the American Association of Professional Landmen. Among his numerous recognitions, M&A Advisor named Purpura a 2016 “Emerging Leader” and for the past three years, Thomson Reuters named him aPennsylvania Super Lawyers “Rising Star” and the Pittsburgh Business Times selected him for its “Who’s Who in Energy.”
