Ghillaine A. Reid, a top New York white-collar defense lawyer and McGuireWoods partner, has been recognized by The Network Journal as one of its 25 Influential Black Women in Business for 2018.
Reid, a former Securities and Exchange Commission branch chief who represents individuals and corporations in federal regulatory and enforcement actions, will be honored with 24 other elite women professionals and business leaders from across the country at a March 16 awards luncheon in New York.
“As we celebrate Women’s History Month, this is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of these women in business, health, entertainment and nonprofit sectors,” said Aziz Gueye Adetimirin, publisher of TNJ, a leading business magazine for African-American professionals, executives and business owners.
Reid came to McGuireWoods in 2016 as a key addition in the firm’s strategic expansion of its Financial Services Litigation group. She is a member of the firm’s highly regarded Government Investigations and White Collar Litigation practice and co-leads its Broker-Dealers and Investment Advisers group.
She regularly represents corporations and individuals in investigations conducted by the SEC, the Justice Department, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and other government and regulatory agencies. She has won favorable outcomes in high-profile SEC investigations and enforcement proceedings involving a wide range of significant issues, including insider trading, accounting fraud, market manipulation and broker-dealer sales practice violations.
“I am honored and humbled to be a recipient of this award and to accept it on behalf the outstanding team of lawyers on our broker-dealer team at McGuireWoods,” Reid said.
Reid is part of a deep bench of former government regulators, senior in-house counsel and seasoned litigators who guide clients through complex and continually evolving laws and regulations confronting the securities industry. The broker-dealer group is part of McGuireWoods’ cross-practice Financial Institutions Industry Team, which leverages the collective experience of the firm’s litigation and transactional lawyers to provide coordinated services for financial industry clients.
