McGuireWoods partner Alexandra Villarreal O’Rourke, co-chair of the firm’s fintech industry team, has been recognized by the Charlotte Business Journal with a Women in Business Achievement Award for 2018. The 25 honorees are profiled in a Feb. 12 special supplement.

O’Rourke, former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau senior counsel, represents financial institutions, fintech developers and other clients in litigation and regulatory matters, and consults on regulatory risk and compliance review.

Since she joined McGuireWoods a year ago, she has spoken at some of the top industry events in the emerging technologies field, including Money 20/20, the leading fintech industry conference in the United States.

“I am honored to be recognized among this elite group of women making major contributions to America’s businesses and I look forward to continuing my work to help emerging technology,” O’Rourke said.

O’Rourke sits on the leadership board for the Carolina Fintech Hub, a coalition dedicated to establishing the Carolina region as one of the nation’s foremost centers for fintech activity. She is an advisory board member for Bank Director’s FinXTech, a program that brings together top decision-makers from traditional financial companies and fintech companies to explore potential technology partnerships. She mentors start-up fintech companies through Envestnet’s fintech incubator. And she has served on the board of directors for the nonprofit Mission Asset Fund, which fosters education and creates lending opportunities for other nonprofit organizations, low-income borrowers and young immigrants living in the country illegally who were brought into the U.S. as small children.
