Amy Morrissey Turk, Former Dollar Tree Assistant General Counsel, Joins McGuireWoods

Partner Managed Employment Law Matters for Fortune 150 Retailer

May 21, 2018

Amy Morrissey Turk has rejoined McGuireWoods as a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment Department after 11 years at Dollar Tree Inc., a Fortune 150 discount variety retailer.

Turk returns to the firm’s Norfolk office, where she practiced before joining Dollar Tree’s legal department in 2007. As assistant general counsel, she oversaw all legal employment matters for the company and its subsidiaries, including litigation, agency claims and arbitration. She also provided compliance and strategic guidance to executive and field management teams in both the retail and distribution divisions.

Turk directed Dollar Tree’s litigation strategy in all employment matters, including Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) representative actions in California and nationwide class and collective actions involving discrimination claims and wage-and-hour disputes.

“Amy’s success managing a national corporate litigation portfolio and providing strategic direction to executives and field managers brings valuable insights that will benefit our clients, particularly in the retail sector,” said Bruce Steen, who chairs the firm’s labor and employment practice.

John Padgett, managing partner of the firm’s Norfolk office, added: “We are delighted to welcome Amy home to McGuireWoods. She is a highly regarded adviser who knows firsthand the challenges our corporate clients face.”

During her previous tenure at McGuireWoods, Turk represented clients’ management teams in all facets of employment litigation and handled a variety of complex commercial litigation matters.

“I am grateful for the opportunities I had overseeing employment matters at Dollar Tree and am eager to put my litigation experience and business perspective to work for McGuireWoods’ clients,” Turk said.

McGuireWoods’ labor and employment lawyers advise local, national and multinational employers — including small businesses, government entities and Fortune 500 companies — on compliance with state, federal and international law; traditional labor issues; internal investigations; federal contracting; and executive compensation. The firm earned national Tier 1 rankings for employment law and labor and employment litigation in the 2018 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers’ “Best Law Firms.”
