McGuireWoods’ Ghillaine Reid Honored as Litigation Trailblazer By The National Law Journal

August 6, 2018

The National Law Journal has honored McGuireWoods partner Ghillaine Reid as a Litigation Trailblazer for her influential work as a defense lawyer representing leading financial institutions in crucial investigations.

Reid, co-chair of McGuireWoods’ broker-dealers and investment advisers group, represents financial institutions in litigation and regulatory enforcement matters, including investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Department of Justice and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. She has achieved favorable outcomes in high-profile investigations and enforcement proceedings involving alleged insider trading, accounting fraud, market manipulation and broker-dealer sales practice violations.

As a former branch chief in the enforcement division of the SEC’s New York regional office, Reid handled major fraud cases, including an equipment leasing securities fraud Ponzi scheme that resulted in one of the largest default judgments secured by the SEC.

“Regulators are focusing heavily on ensuring that financial institutions are protecting their customer base, particularly the elderly,” Reid told The National Law Journal. “This presents great opportunities for lawyers to advocate for the interests of major financial institutions.”

At McGuireWoods, Reid is part of a formidable team of former government regulators, senior in-house counsel and experienced litigators who help clients navigate laws and regulations governing the securities industry. The broker-dealer group is part of McGuireWoods’ cross-practice financial institutions industry team, which leverages the collective experience of the firm’s litigation and transactional lawyers to provide coordinated services for financial industry clients.
