Investing in the Future through Strengthening the Pipeline

McGuireWoods has invested in several pipeline programs to encourage diverse middle-school, high-school and college students to consider a career in law.

Our firm is committed to an unique pipeline program developed through a partnership with Virginia Union University (VUU), an historically black college located in Richmond, VA. Through the program, McGuireWoods lawyers reach out to VUU students who are interested in legal careers. As part of this initiative, the firm established an internship program in its Richmond office specifically for these students. In addition, we collaborated with VUU in developing a pre-law course taught by McGuireWoods lawyers at the university. We also make mentoring available to promising VUU students and help them prepare for law school application.

Our Atlanta office has provided an annual paid internship to undergraduate students attending Spelman College, an historically black women’s college, who are interested in pursuing a career in law.

McGuireWoods’ Chicago Associates Forum has worked with Street Law at Loyola University since 2008 to sponsor a weekend program in which lawyers from McGuireWoods provide a tour, lunch and an informal discussion for diverse high-school students interested in legal careers. Our Chicago office also sponsors an annual Chicago LegalTrek — a program offered through the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms.

We also sponsor Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO) pre-law programs around the country to encourage students from under-represented populations to attend law school.
