Peter is the firm’s Deputy Managing Partner for Growth and Strategic Initiatives and a partner in the Business and Securities Litigation Department. A seasoned litigator with over 30 years of experience, Peter has been recognized consistently as a leader in his practice areas by publications such as Chambers, Benchmark Litigation, Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers. He was named “Lawyer of the Year” for Securities Litigation by Best Lawyers in America for 2016.

Peter focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on securities and financial services litigation. He has represented parties in complex litigation of all types, including securities, lender liability, antitrust, business torts, shareholder litigation, insurance coverage disputes and both domestic and international arbitrations.

Peter has served in many leadership roles with the firm including as its Vice-Chairman, a Member of the Board of Partners and as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Prior to its merger with McGuireWoods, Peter was chairman and managing member of Helms Mulliss & Wicker, PLLC. from its creation in 2002 until its merger with McGuireWoods in 2008, and he was the Managing Partner of Smith Helms Mulliss & Moore from 1997 to 2002.
