Jasen Eige, a former senior adviser to the attorney general and governor of
Virginia, is a partner with McGuireWoods LLP, and a senior vice president with
McGuireWoods Consulting. His McGuireWoods Consulting practice focuses on
multistate government affairs and Virginia state government, assisting clients
with governmental and public policy issues across the country and in Virginia,
with a focus on governors and state attorneys general.
Jasen combines more than 15 years of experience in public policy, politics
and law to provide a comprehensive approach to representing his clients. He
recently held a cabinet-level position as counselor and senior policy advisor to
the governor of Virginia.
In this role, Jasen managed the governor's Policy Office, including directing
the creation of Governor McDonnell's policy agenda and the administration's
legislative efforts before the Virginia General Assembly. Jasen also managed the
Counsel's Office. Other responsibilities included reviewing and approving state
regulations, overseeing the administration’s interaction with state legislators
and stakeholders, supervising the bill review process during the legislative
session, evaluating public-private and procurement proposals, reviewing pardon
and capital clemency petitions, and assisting with the development and
implementation of the governor’s budget proposals. During this time he also
worked with the Republican Governors Association (RGA) on policy matters,
including the governor’s term as RGA chairman.
Prior to serving in the governor’s administration, Jasen joined the
governor-elect’s successful gubernatorial campaign as chief counsel. Following
the election, he served as counsel to the governor-elect’s transition office.
From 1999-2000, Jasen clerked for the Honorable Glen M. Williams, Senior U.S.
District Judge for the Western District of Virginia, and then practiced law with
the largest regional firm in Abingdon, Virginia. He next served nearly six years
in the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia where he held several
positions including assistant attorney general in the Trial Section of the Civil
Litigation Division, senior assistant attorney general in the Finance Law and
Government Services Section, and finally as chief of staff and counsel to the
