Deven focuses her practice on representing employers in preventing, litigating, and resolving employment-related claims. She has broad experience defending employers against discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful discharge claims before federal and state administrative agencies and in federal court, state court, and arbitration. She provides preventative advice regarding compliance with various federal, state, and local employment laws including, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, Title VII, ADEA, and the ADA. Additionally, she counsels employers regarding employment agreements, non-compete agreements, separation agreements, employee handbooks, workplace policies, and employee discipline.  Deven also has experience in trade secret litigation, including seeking injunctive and equitable relief related to restrictive covenants, tortious interference, and misappropriation of trade secrets claims.

Deven earned her J.D. from Duke University School of Law and received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University. Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Deven worked in the Office of Counsel at Duke University where she provided support to both Duke University and Duke University Health System on a broad range of legal issues, primarily pertaining to labor and employment matters. She also practiced employment and general commercial litigation with a large firm in the Southeast.

Before attending law school, Deven served the Midlands and Lowcountry of South Carolina through work with City Year Columbia, an AmeriCorps program, and The Lowcountry Food Bank, a Feeding America Affiliate.
