Richard T. Greenberg Counsel

Richard's practice focuses on business, professional liability and complex commercial litigation, especially with reference to the liability of financial, accounting and other business professionals, and including the business liability of medical professionals.

He also handles internal corporate investigations, corporate governance issues and insurance and reinsurance disputes. He has conducted litigation and arbitration proceedings in a broad range of professional liability, business, healthcare, antitrust, RICO, commercial and insurance matters.

Richard is a frequent speaker on a variety of topics related to his practice. This includes a class on Legal Elements of Commercial Fraud that he taught at Northwestern University.

Richard served as managing partner of the Chicago office from 2004 to 2008. He is a former member of the firm's Board of Partners and the Diversity Committee.


Corporate/Securities Litigation

Representation of corporations and corporate officers and directors in the defense of securities fraud class actions and shareholder derivative cases, and has defended businesses and their executives in various business tort and contract matters.

Representation of corporations and their officials in connection with investigations by the SEC, the PCAOB and other agencies and regulatory bodies such as the NASDAQ.

Representation of boards of directors and audit committees in connection with internal corporate investigations and corporate governance issues.

Professional Liability/Accountants' Liability

Representation of Big 4 and other major accounting firms in malpractice, securities fraud, RICO, tax and other significant commercial cases.

Representation of attorneys, insurance brokers and other business professionals in securities litigation, RICO, malpractice, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and similar types of cases.

Assistance to professionals and directors and officers in connection with SEC and PCAOB investigations, grand jury proceedings and administrative proceedings involving other federal and state regulatory agencies.

Health Care Regulation & Disputes

Advice on a broad array of providers on regulatory issues relating to insurance, compliance and privacy, employment disputes and corporate governance matters.

Representation of stakeholders on both sides of Certificate of Need challenges and defended the Certificate of Need for a $325 million replacement hospital.

Litigation related to antitrust issues in the healthcare area as well as the application of RICO to healthcare professionals.

Insurance & Reinsurance

Representation of Lloyd's of London, U.S. and foreign insurers and reinsurers in connection with coverage afforded to the largest worldwide accounting and other professional service firms.

Representation for insurance and reinsurance matters for large corporations and their directors and officers.

Litigation in federal and state courts and in arbitration proceedings.

Representation in various proceedings concerning the liquidation of insurers by state authorities.
