Trent M. Grissom Attorney

Trent currently focuses his practice on the financial services sector, counseling local and national financial institutions as to their rights and obligations under a wide range of statutes and regulations with respect to lending practices, customer solicitations, mortgage disputes, and collections procedures and restrictions.

Trent also has experience with business litigation, construction litigation, homeowners’ association issues and personal injury claims. He has first- and second-chaired jury and bench trials of client cases in the District Courts and Superior Courts of North Carolina and in the Court of Common Pleas in South Carolina. In addition to his litigation experience, Trent has represented clients regarding residential and commercial real estate transactions, estate planning and litigation, and business entity formation, governance and organization.

Before joining McGuireWoods, Trent practiced law as an associate in midsize North Carolina and South Carolina law firms, representing businesses and individuals on a range of criminal and civil matters.

Committed to his community, Trent serves as a volunteer at his children’s elementary school and serves as a mentor to selected students that lack a male role model presence in their home lives.


Represented a client as first chair in a three-day Superior Court jury trial with a substantial verdict in my client’s favor in Vance County, N.C.

Represented a client as first chair in Union County, N.C., resulting in a $250,000 verdict in my client’s favor.

Achieved a defense verdict in a client’s favor in a Lancaster County, S.C., suit for $300,000 in actual damages.

Conducted closings for North and South Carolina residential and commercial real estate transactions.

Provided ongoing general representation of several homeowners’ associations.

Reviewed and drafted loan documents for several local lenders on commercial loans.

Assisted clients with minor personal injury matters.

Reviewed and drafted purchase agreements and commercial lease agreements.

Assisted clients with business entity formation, governance and organization.

Assisted clients with wills, trusts, estate planning and estate litigation.

Represented criminal defendants in state-appointed cases.
