Garrett focuses his practice on business and securities litigation, assisting a range of companies in all aspects of commercial litigation and dispute resolution.

Garrett obtained his undergraduate degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and his law degree magna cum laude from the University of Richmond School of Law in Richmond, Virginia.

Before joining McGuireWoods, Garrett worked for a medical malpractice defense firm, where he successfully argued dispositive and non-dispositive motions, and served as first-chair defense counsel in a general district court matter and second-chair defense counsel in a four-day medical malpractice jury trial. Both trials resulted in defense verdicts. Garrett also assisted with drafting appellate briefs for the Supreme Court of Virginia.

After law school, Garrett clerked for then-Justice Donald W. Lemons of the Supreme Court of Virginia. He also interned for then-Magistrate Judge M. Hannah Lauck at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division, during his second year of law school.

While enrolled at Richmond, Garrett served as Editor-in-Chief of the Richmond Journal of Global Law and Business. He also placed first in Richmond’s 2010 James H. Barnett Jr. Moot Court Competition, and in 2012 received the Best Oralist Award at the William B. Spong Moot Court Competition, held at William and Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law. Garrett was a member of the McNeill Law Society and after graduation was inducted into the Order of the Coif.

Garrett presently serves on the University of Richmond School of Law’s Young Graduates Association Board and is a member of James Madison University’s Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication Alumni Council. He also writes for Federal Baseball.
