Jake’s practice focuses on all phases of general commercial litigation in a variety of substantive areas, including breach of contract, fraud, negligence, civil RICO, consumer banking litigation, class actions, shareholder derivative matters, appeals, Freedom of Information matters, First Amendment matters, real estate litigation, antitrust matters and others.

He has represented corporate and individual clients in state and federal court, and he is experienced in drafting and arguing dispositive motions, managing cases, conducting discovery, as well as trial and appellate work. Most recently, he helped defend against numerous lawsuits brought against multinational banks concerning mortgage foreclosure practices. Jake’s earliest courtroom experiences were in his representation of criminal defendants pro bono.

Representation of multinational bank in several major class actions concerning mortgage foreclosure practices.

Representation of multinational bank in shareholder derivative action concerning mortgage foreclosure practices.

Appeal of court order dismissing mortgage foreclosure action with prejudice based on foreclosure practices, with wide implications for foreclosures in the region. Appeal granted and order reversed.

Pro bono representation of amicus in appeal of a murder conviction where DNA evidence had excluded the defendant and conviction was based on a non-credible confession. Conviction reversed.

Representation of crude oil trading and transportation company seeking damages due to oil spill at defendant's storage and transportation facility. Interlocutory appeal concerning damages granted.

Representation of Fortune 100 telecommunications company in seeking to protect sensitive commercial information from disclosure by municipalities in response to Freedom of Information requests by a competitor. Obtained favorable court rulings and information was protected from disclosure.

Defense of lawsuit brought by individual against a motion picture studio and others claiming rights to a major film. Obtained favorable court ruling that effectively ended the litigation.

Defense of defamation case brought against radio station and others stemming from on-air comments. Obtained favorable trial and appellate court rulings.

Representation of a scrap metal company in a major contract dispute. Obtained a favorable settlement.
