Karen’s experience includes all facets of real estate transactions, including government-assisted financing, low-income and historic-tax credit financing. Her practice includes the representation of clients engaged in the sales, acquisition, development, financing and refinancing of all types of commercial property, including sellers, buyers, developers, and lenders. She also has experience representing both landlords and tenants in commercial leasing transactions and in drafting and reviewing leases of all varieties. Additionally, Karen routinely drafts and assists with negotiations of easements and zoning transactions.

Karen is part of a team of firm real estate department members established to act as counsel (including, in some cases, program counsel) to CMBS lenders. In this capacity, she has closed multiple CMBS loans including representations in which she has served as the first chair attorney.

Prior to her legal profession, Karen spent five years on active duty as a Quartermaster officer in the U.S. Army, and deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom I with the Third Infantry Division.
