J. Patrick McNichol Associate

Pat focuses his practice on defending clients in credit card and banking matters in state and federal courts across the country. Pat’s experience includes defending against violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, and various state consumer protection statutes.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Pat served as a law clerk for the Honorable M. Hannah Lauck of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Honorable Joseph R. Goodwin of the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia. Pat also interned for the Honorable Roger L. Gregory, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, during his third year of law school. 

As a law student, Pat served as an Articles Editor for the University of Richmond Law Review and was awarded the Glenice B. Coombs Award for Law Review Excellence. Pat also served on the school’s Moot Court Board, winning a national moot court competition and a best brief award.  At graduation, he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and the Order of Barristers.
