Lara is a vice president with the Illinois state government relations group where she leverages her deep knowledge of the political process as well as long-standing relationships with policy makers, lobbyists, and various government stakeholders to produce results on major legislative issues for clients.
Prior to joining McGuireWoods Consulting, Lara worked as a legislation liaison at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. In that capacity she drafted legislation, secured legislative sponsorship, negotiated with opponents, and provided committee testimony in an effort to advance the Department’s legislative agenda through the Illinois General Assembly.
Her previous experience also includes working as a James H. Dunn Fellow in the Governor’s Office of Legislative Affairs, which provided her with first-hand experience in the political process and allowed her to develop relationships with policymakers and government stakeholders.
Lara completed a year of service with City Year, an AmeriCorps program where she served as a mentor and tutor at a low-income Chicago public high school and is currently the vice-chair of the City Year Alumni Board in Chicago.
Lara is in the final stages of completing a master’s degree in Public Policy at the Harris School at the University of Chicago. In the course of working on her masters, Lara has developed quantitative and analytical skills that allow her to better serve clients as she is able to acquire expertise quickly and apply it to solve particular problems.
