Matt focuses his practice on commercial litigation, particularly financial services and banking litigation. He represents banks and other financial institutions in disputes involving complex financial products and instruments in a wide range of litigation matters. He also regularly handles policyholders’ insurance coverage matters, business torts and general commercial contract claims.

He has extensive experience representing financial institutions involved in credit card and mortgage litigation alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Real Estate Settlement Practices Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, Truth in Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Bankruptcy Discharge Injunction and Stay, and state law consumer protection statutes.

Matt was recently seconded to one of the nation’s largest financial institutions where he served as litigation counsel and also advised on compliance issues relating to consumer financial protection laws.

Prior to joining the firm, Matt spent five years on active duty as a Military Intelligence officer in the U.S. Army. His service included a combat deployment to Iraq. Matt is certified to practice in front of the Department of Veterans Affairs and maintains an active veteran pro bono practice.

Representation of national lender in multi-jurisdictional litigation involving mortgage related insurance and title insurance products. Obtained combined recoveries in excess of $140 million.

Representation of national lender in state court actions for breach of contract relating to commercial lending transactions and residential mortgage products. Obtained multiple favorable dismissals and victories on summary judgment.

National counsel to global financial institution defending single plaintiff claims and class actions related to credit card and mortgage products.

Defense of multiple mortgage servicers regarding alleged violations of Bankruptcy Discharge Injunctions and Stays.
