Scott represents high net worth individuals, fiduciaries, and tax-exempt organizations on a range of tax and trust and estate matters.

Scott focuses his estate planning and administration practice on advising high net worth individuals and families on their tax and non-tax objectives in transferring wealth to future generations. As a member of McGuireWoods’ fiduciary advisory services team, Scott routinely advises fiduciaries on tax and administration matters involving the fiduciary’s diverse duties and broad-ranging discretionary decisions.

Scott also represents tax-exempt organizations on establishment and compliance matters. Scott advises new organizations on creating the organizational structure and obtaining tax-exempt status. Scott also represents existing organizations on corporate governance and federal and state compliance matters such as restricted gifts to public charities, excess benefit transactions, and joint solicitation efforts between tax-exempt organizations and for-profit entities.

During law school, Scott assisted McGuireWoods’ tax controversy team in providing pro bono services to low-income taxpayers through William & Mary’s Federal Tax Clinic and the Community Tax Law Project in Richmond.
