Alicia C. O'Brien Associate

Alicia C. O'Brien is an associate in McGuireWoods Los Angeles Downtown office.  She is a member of the complex commercial litigation department where she is dedicated to serving clients in California state and national cases.

Alicia is experienced in most phases of litigation including drafting demand letters, dispositive motions, ex parte applications, discovery requests and responses, depositions, evidentiary objections and trial preparation.  She has drafted mediation briefs, negotiated settlement and drafted settlement agreements.  Alicia has advised clients in high-stakes and high-profile litigation.

Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Alicia served as a Judicial Fellow to Justice Victoria G. Chaney of the California 2nd District Court of Appeal. She drafted appellate court opinions concerning Anti-SLAPP, juvenile dependency, Three Strikes Law, the ex- post facto clause and 6th Amendment rights under the confrontation clause.

Alicia is an active participant in community affairs and pro bono activities including defending the dignity of elderly clients with Bet Tzedek Legal Services and advocating for homeless individuals with the Los Angeles Legal Aid Foundation.

Prior to her work as a litigator, Alicia worked in political communications managing the national press corps coverage of events during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign and the 2010 U.S. Senate campaign in Connecticut.  She also has experience in legislative affairs and consulting at Ogilvy Government Relations and The Glover Park Group.
