Sarah focuses on labor and employment law, encompassing transactional, advisory and contentious issues.

She advises and represents clients on the full spectrum of workplace issues, from hiring to termination. Over the course of her practice, Sarah has drafted contracts and policies, assisted with performance management and sickness absence issues, and handled disciplinary, grievance and termination issues. She also counsels clients on employment issues relating to cross-border corporate transactions, company restructuring, global mobility, and data protection and privacy. She holds the CIPP/E certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).

Before joining McGuireWoods, Sarah was trainee solicitor and then employment associate for an international law firm’s London office.

Assisted as part of a team of lawyers on the global spin-off of a health care division for an American NYSE personal care corporation. Her involvement included providing TUPE advice, undertaking due diligence, advising on the enforceability of restrictive covenants and confidentiality clauses and drafting settlement agreements.

Advising a US client on the purchase of an IT outsourcing business with a UK division, including counseling on TUPE issues, consultation obligations, collective redundancies and contract harmonisation.

Counseling a NASDAQ quoted life science and high technology company on the acquisition of a preclinical discovery and development research AIM listed company, including conducting due diligence, drafting and negotiating warranties and indemnities and preparing revised contracts of employment.

Advise to a global internet travel company on its acquisition of certain assets of a luxury travel company in administration, including TUPE insolvency principles and protective awards.

Representation of an American movie theatre company on the sale of a cinema to a British cinema chain, including support through the employee representatives’ election process, drafting measures letters and coordinating the transfer of employee information.

Counseling US clients on global mobility and expansion into the UK market. Advising on employee and independent contractor status, secondments, minimum and market practice benefits, employment rights and new-hire documentation. Coordinating legal advice from colleagues and local counsel when clients seek to establish a presence in different European jurisdictions.

Advice to a US manufacturer of stringed instruments on restructuring, the UK redundancy process and provided specific guidance on consulting with a HR professional on sick leave.

Assisted with employment terminations on the grounds of capability and poor performance, including support through the performance management and dismissal process, negotiating severance terms and drafting settlement agreements.

Training HR and management of a global leader in the beverage industry on workplace conflict management mediation.

Managing a European data protection project for a global solar power company, including advising on the cross-border transfer of employee and customer data outside the EEA, drafting data transfer agreements and consent forms, instructing local counsel and coordinating legal advice.

Reviewing and advising on data protection and bring your own device policies, website privacy policy and terms of use.

Advising on the collection, storage and access of employee and customer personal data held within a database for an American multi-level marketing company.

Assisting with a High Court interim injunction enforcing a stock broker’s restrictive covenant and garden leave obligations. Preparing bundles, drafting cost schedule and liaising with the opposing party and counsel.
