Lauren E. Wood Counsel

Lauren represents electric and gas utility clients in proceedings before state regulatory commissions in connection with certificates of public convenience and necessity, rider cost recovery for generation and transmission facilities, demand-side management and energy efficiency programs, affiliates transactions, and the transfer of utility assets.

Lauren assists clients in all aspects of such proceedings, including the preparation of preliminary filings, discovery management, drafting legal briefs and memoranda, and representing clients in public hearings.

Prior to joining the firm’s regulatory and compliance group in 2017, Lauren practiced for several years with McGuireWoods’ products, environmental & mass tort litigation group, where she represented clients in product liability, consumer class action, toxic tort, and commercial litigation matters. A Dallas native, Lauren previously represented clients in toxic tort litigation pending in Texas and California, where Lauren is also licensed.

While pursuing her law degree at the University of San Francisco School of Law, Lauren participated in the Megan Furth Child Advocacy Clinic and received a CALI Award for Excellence in Family Law. She also completed internships with the U.S. Department of Justice, Division of Environment and Natural Resources, and the State Bar of California, and served as a judicial extern for the Honorable James R. Lambden of the California Court of Appeal.

Experience

Assist with representation of electric utility in proceedings to certify and recover costs of new generation and transmission facilities.

Assist with representation of electric utility in proceedings for approval of affiliate agreements and asset transfers.

Served as national coordinating counsel for design engineering firm in asbestos actions, including coordination of discovery and depositions, expert development, and trial strategy and preparation.

Assisted with management of national docket of personal injury cases for a major manufacturer of smoke alarms.

Assisted with representation of automotive manufacturer and automotive component parts manufacturer in six products liability trials in California, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Tennessee.

Represented health care company in development of several multi-million dollar regional surgery centers.
